What's Happening Around Bedford This Week? October 26-November 1, 2026

This week around Bedford brings Día de los Muertos crafts for kids at the Bedford Public Library, the last week of an art exhibit at the Lawrence County Museum of History, a Friday night history walk in Bryantsville, Halloween candy at the library, Trick or Treat on Main Street in Mitchell, and a weekend craft fair at Spring Mill State Park.

Lesa Miller is a REALTOR® and broker in Bloomington, Indiana, who helps buyers and sellers in Bloomington, Bedford, Martinsville and the surrounding towns. Here's what caught my eye this week.

What's happening at the library?

  • Día de los Muertos (ages 6-12), Tuesday, Oct. 27, 4-5 p.m., Bedford Public Library. Crafts and pan dulce. Registration is required at bedlib.org.

  • Trick-or-Treat at the Library, Friday, Oct. 30, and Saturday, Oct. 31, 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Library staff in costume hand out candy.

These are from WBIW's community calendar, which lists more local events.

What's on at the museum?

This is the last week for "From Bedford to the World: The Art of Julia Zollman Wickes," in the second-floor McReynolds Community Gallery at the Lawrence County Museum of History, 929 15th Street in Bedford. The museum lists the exhibit through Oct. 31. It's open Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m.-noon.

On Friday, Oct. 30, the museum's historic walk, "Bad Blood in Bryantsville," starts at 6 p.m. at the Bryantsville Church of Christ. Costumed reenactors tell the story of the June 1904 murders of brothers James and Charles Rout, followed by a light supper and a talk by Believe Paranormal at the Commercial Building at the Lawrence County Fairgrounds. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors over 65 and $10 for students, sold at the museum. Details are on the museum's event page, or call (812) 278-8575.

Where can kids trick-or-treat?

  • Mitchell Trick or Treat on Main Street, Saturday, Oct. 31, 4-6 p.m. Local businesses hand out treats.

  • VFW Post 9107 Halloween Safe Stop in Mitchell, Friday, Oct. 30, 5-9 p.m., with free candy and hot dogs.

  • Bedford First Church of God Fall Festival, Friday, Oct. 30, 6-8 p.m., 3131 16th St. in Bedford, with free hot dogs, games, a hayride and a pallet maze.

I didn't find 2026 citywide trick-or-treat hours for Bedford yet, so check with the city before Saturday.

What's happening this weekend?

The Pioneer Village Craft Fair at Spring Mill State Park runs Saturday, Oct. 31, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 1, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., in the park's pioneer village. WBIW lists regular park fees plus a $3 village fee for adults, and suggests bringing cash. It's a good excuse for a fall drive to Mitchell. Call the park at (812) 849-3534 before you go.

And remember, clocks fall back an hour early Sunday, Nov. 1.

I work with buyers and sellers across Bloomington, Bedford, Ellettsville, and the surrounding south-central Indiana communities. Some are downsizing. Some are relocating for work at Cook, Novo Nordisk, IU, or Crane. Some are parents buying a place for their student at IU. Some are first-time buyers trying to figure out where to start. What they have in common is they want a straight answer and a plan that fits their situation, not a sales pitch. Since 2001. JD/MBA.
