What's Happening Around Bedford This Week? October 19-25, 2026

October 18, 2026•2 min read

This week around Bedford brings a community-wide book club night, a fall StoryWalk at the Bedford Public Library, an art exhibit at the history museum and tribute shows at the Mitchell Opera House on Friday and Saturday. For a drive, Patoka Lake is south of French Lick and West Baden.

What's happening at the library?

  • Lawrence County Read community book club, Monday, Oct. 19, 6-7 p.m., Bedford Public Library. It's hosted with local book clubs and the Mitchell Community Public Library.

  • Fall StoryWalk Road Trip: A Whiskers Hollow Adventure, listed Monday through Wednesday at the Bedford Public Library. A good one for the kids.

  • Paws for Reading, Tuesday, Oct. 20, 4-5 p.m., Bedford Public Library.

These are from WBIW's community calendar, which lists more local events.

What's on at the museum?

The Lawrence County Museum of History, 929 15th Street in Bedford, has "From Bedford to the World: The Art of Julia Zollman Wickes" in its second-floor gallery through Nov. 7. The museum is open Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m.-noon. Its website also lists a historic walk coming up on Friday, Oct. 30.

What's happening this weekend?

The Mitchell Opera House, 217 N. 7th St. in Mitchell, has tribute shows both nights: The Fortunate Sons on Friday, Oct. 23, and Ocean's Rat Pack on Saturday, Oct. 24. Check the Opera House for showtimes and tickets.

Where's a good fall day trip?

Patoka Lake, south of French Lick and West Baden. Indiana DNR describes an 8,800-acre lake on a 25,800-acre property, with freshwater jellyfish and bald eagle nesting sites. See the DNR's Patoka Lake page for hours and fees.

Closer to home, Fall Weekend in Lawrence County: Spring Mill, Bluespring Caverns and Mitchell has more ideas, and What Is Life Like in Bedford, Indiana? covers everyday life here.

I work with buyers and sellers across Bloomington, Bedford, Ellettsville, and the surrounding south-central Indiana communities. Some are downsizing. Some are relocating for work at Cook, Novo Nordisk, IU, or Crane. Some are parents buying a place for their student at IU. Some are first-time buyers trying to figure out where to start. What they have in common is they want a straight answer and a plan that fits their situation, not a sales pitch. Since 2001. JD/MBA.
