If you need a short commute to a major airport, this will frustrate you. The nearest major hub is over an hour away, and while that's a fair trade for a lot of people, it's a dealbreaker if you fly frequently for work.

If you want big-city nightlife and options year-round, temper your expectations. Bloomington has a genuinely lively downtown thanks to the university, but a lot of that energy scales down significantly in the summer when students leave, and it's simply not Chicago or Indianapolis on a Friday night.

If you need four seasons of mild weather, Indiana in general isn't your state. Summers get humid, winters get gray and cold, and if that combination wears on you, you'll feel it here like anywhere else in the Midwest.

If you're someone who wants total anonymity, a college town this size might feel too familiar. You will run into people you know at the grocery store. For some people that's the whole appeal, for others, it's claustrophobic.

And if you want to be surrounded by land that's flat and easy to develop, this isn't it either. The hills and limestone that make this area beautiful also make it less suited to sprawling new subdivisions than flatter parts of the state.
