What is the project?
According to the City of Bloomington's Oct. 19 announcement, the project will explore turning a century-old limestone channel into a more natural-looking stream corridor. That's meant to improve how stormwater moves through the area and help filter runoff.
The project covers downtown Bloomington and surrounding parts of the Clear Creek channel. It builds on earlier work, including the Hidden River Pathway and the Clear Creek Culvert Reconstruction.
Who is doing the work?
City of Bloomington Utilities (CBU) hired Christopher B. Burke Engineering, LLC on Aug. 14, 2026, to do the feasibility study and preliminary design. The design work is just starting.
Why does it matter to people who live and own property nearby?
The city says the project will also explore ways to support economic development, with a connected corridor that can enhance surrounding properties and strengthen connections between downtown and nearby neighborhoods. CBU is inviting residents, businesses and property owners to help guide it.
If you own a home or business near the creek, the Oct. 29 meeting is the place to hear the plans early and ask questions.
How do you take part?
Go to the meeting: Thursday, Oct. 29, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Switchyard Park Pavilion, 1601 S. Rogers St.
