3 Easy Ways To Increase Curb Appeal

Some homeowners put a great deal of time, money, and energy into enhancing their house’s curb appeal. That’s ok, if you have those things. Some people don’t, though, but that doesn’t change their need to improve their home’s façade. Here are 3 easy ways to make that curb appeal more attainable to more casual owners.

Cosmetic Landscaping

You don’t necessarily have to go all out to improve the look of your front yard. Then again, you also don’t have to settle for just a regular mowing of your lawn. Any DIY-er can show you how to install a modest flower garden. If you do have hedges, their trimming doesn’t have to be elaborate, and can be completed in a couple of hours. Strategically placed potted plants are always a good idea. For a sense of nature, you’d be spot on with a bird feeder. You can keep your landscaping simple, yet still elegant.

Paint

Painting is a trade-off. It’s relatively inexpensive for a DIY project, but it does take some time and patience. Basic, common sense planning, though, will make it a smooth, stress free job. If you don’t want to purchase the equipment, you can rent it. Once you get into the habit of it, the task becomes far easier, eventually even relaxing. Best of all, your siding, frames, and even your mailbox end up looking fabulous with the deepened (or maybe even completely changed) colors you’ve chosen.

Give Your House a Bath

The key concept here: pressure wash. Choose a nozzle to pressure wash with. Nozzles are typically measured in degrees. The spray is stronger the lower you go in degrees. Choose a low setting if you aren’t familiar with pressure washing. A 40-degree angle is good to start with. You can gradually work down to a 25-degree angle if the 40-degree nozzle isn’t getting the job done. Move from top to bottom if using a cleanser. Water alone should typically be enough to pressure wash the house, but you will need to wash in a different motion if you’re using a cleaner. Spray from top to bottom if you’re using a cleaner. Rinse off the cleanser with water when you are finished pressure washing.
